Lead replacement by RVP Gevelonderhoud
When lead needs replacing, this is best combined with the pointing repair. The scaffolding is up anyway and both jobs work into the same brickwork.
We use 18-pound lead with stainless steel clips and cut the joint back to around 6 cm. We assess the existing fitting first, to see whether an improvement is possible. Often the problem is not the lead itself but the way it was originally fitted.
- 18-pound lead
- Stainless steel clips
- Joint cut back to 6 cm
- Assessment of the existing fitting

Why lead starts to leak
Lead that is cut in too shallow or fixed with the wrong clips works loose over time. Rain then runs behind it and soaks into the brickwork. You often only notice once the damage is visible indoors.
That is why we always assess the existing fitting first. Sometimes adjusting the detail is enough, sometimes full replacement is the only sound solution. Either way, you hear it during the survey.

We look at the detail, the cutting depth and the fixings.
